"My father was shot during death march from Sachsenhausen. It was the end of the war, and the motherfucker that shot him, must have known it. He was not alone. Everyone who couldn´t keep walking anymore was shot. His friend who was with him at the time, said at my mother´s funeral how it all had happened. Maybe he had been ashamed. My father was 33 years old back then, and I was 63 when I set off to trace back the death march. I found the mass grave where my father could rest in Linde and I placed a small stone on the grave. After many years, I received a letter from a local evangelical priest from Linde saying that she had got to know the story of my father and that the dead should have names on their graves. And so she wrote the name Vojtech Gál on the grave. Also murderers should have names. It is indeed easy to shoot from an anonymous crowd. Without any guilt or punishment.”
